Job Summary
The Bench Jeweler is responsible for the repair, restoration, fabrication, and finishing of fine jewelry while upholding Mountz Jewelers’ standards of craftsmanship, quality, and customer satisfaction. This role requires technical expertise in jewelry repair and gemstone setting, as well as a strong attention to detail to ensure each piece is completed with precision and care.
The Bench Jeweler collaborates closely with the repair, appraisal, and sales teams to execute high-quality repairs and custom work while maintaining efficient workflow and exceptional workmanship.
Essential Functions

Jewelry Repair & Fabrication
- Assemble, solder, repair, and restore fine jewelry pieces
- Perform sizing, chain repair, clasp replacement, rebuilding, and other repair services
- Work with precious metals including gold (14k, 18k), platinum, and silver
- Execute hand fabrication and finishing work with precision and consistency
Stone Setting & Finishing
- Set round and fancy-shaped diamonds and colored gemstones using various setting techniques, including prong, bezel, pavé, and channel settings
- Perform polishing, rhodium plating, refinishing, and quality finishing techniques
- Ensure completed pieces meet Mountz Jewelers’ quality and craftsmanship standards
Repair Evaluation & Quality Control
- Inspect jewelry to assess repair needs and determine appropriate repair methods
- Evaluate completed work to ensure structural integrity, functionality, and aesthetic quality
- Maintain attention to detail while handling delicate and high-value jewelry items
Team Collaboration & Workflow Support
- Collaborate with design, repair, appraisal, and sales teams to support customer needs and project completion
- Assist with maintaining workflow efficiency and meeting repair deadlines
- Communicate repair concerns, special requests, or material needs appropriately
Workspace & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe bench/workspace
- Properly maintain tools, equipment, and materials used in jewelry repair and fabrication
- Follow company security procedures and handling protocols for high-value merchandise
Professional Development
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends, repair techniques, and jewelry craftsmanship standards
- Participate in trainings and development opportunities to enhance technical skills and workmanship
Additional Duties

Education and Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Bench Jeweler in a fine jewelry environment
- Experience working with precious metals and gemstone setting techniques
- Demonstrated proficiency in jewelry repair and finishing techniques
Preferred:
- Experience with custom jewelry fabrication or CAD-supported projects
- Experience working in luxury retail or high-volume jewelry repair environments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High level craftsmanship and technical jewelry repair skills
- Proficiency in gemstone setting techniques and finishing processes
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or CAD designs
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple repairs and deadlines
- Strong problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude
- Passion for craftsmanship and producing heirloom-quality jewelry pieces

Work Environment
- Work performed in primarily in jewelry repair and retail environments
- Frequent collaboration across multiple store locations, customers, and vendors

- May require evening or weekend availability for events and campaigns
