The monthly stats ... May!

As I type this last day of April, I’m optimistic that the torrential rain that is falling outside, will lead to those very famous May flowers! The month of May also promises that at the end of the month we will officially kick-off summer with the celebration of Memorial Day! But most importantly, May brings the day in which we honor our mothers, motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. Recognized by the United States in 1914, tradition is that each person offers a gift, card, or remembrance toward their mothers, grandmothers and/or maternal figure. So, as you plan how you’ll be celebrating that special mother figure in your life, don’t forget the other great things in May to mark in your calendars.  

• If you say you’re too busy to meditate, you more than likely are one of the many who most need its benefits. So, during the month of May, find a minute to quiet your mind and concentrate on your breathing during National Meditation Month.
• The first Saturday in May, this year May 3, is the date of the annual Kentucky Derby, the  most famous horse race in the United States. So ladies, put on your biggest mostfabulous hat and celebrate with Mountz who proudly sponsors Jump Street and Sadler Health Center’s Derby Day festivities.
• May 4 would have been Audrey Hepburn’s 85^th birthday and we’re certain she would be looking as elegant and stylish as ever. Often credited for making the little black dress and diamond earrings famous, celebrate in honor of Ms. Hepburn on the 4^th and show off your diamonds!
• Attention all Star Wars fans! May 4 is Star Wars Day … “May the fourth be with you!”
• Happy Cinco de Mayo! This holiday celebrated on May 5 primarily in the United States and Mexico originates with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.  
• If you didn’t think this day could be any more important, this year it is! On May 11 Mother’s Day will celebrate its 100^th anniversary of the first time Mom was officially honored in this way. So, it’s not too early to start looking for gorgeous Mother’s Day gifts for your loved ones. Let us know if you need help!
• The last Monday in May, May 26, is Memorial Day, a US federal holiday established as a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. It also marks the start of summer vacation season, something that many have been looking forward to for months!
• The birthstone for May, the emerald, a symbol of rebirth, is believed to grant the   owner foresight, good fortune and youth. Sounds like we all should be wearing some emeralds!
• May’s flower is the Lily of the Valley and the Crataegus monogyna.
• May’s Zodiac signs are Taurus (until May 20) and Gemini (May 21 onwards).
